“Kaiten Sushi Yamato” is a sushi restaurant chain with several locations in Chiba Prefecture, where Narita Airport is located.
Operated directly by a seafood company, it seems to offer fresh seafood at reasonable prices. Besides “Kaiten Sushi Yamato,” their “Seafood Izakaya” and other establishments are also popular.
Being near the sea, these unique Japanese conveyor belt sushi restaurants boast high quality!
You can enjoy delicious sushi that surpasses the expectations of typical conveyor belt sushi.
Ordering Method & Price Range
Although it’s a conveyor belt sushi restaurant, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has now shifted to an all-order system.
Customers order using a touch panel.
Touch panels are available at booth seats, making it convenient for ordering.
The presence of child-friendly menu options explains the abundance of families dining here.
There’s also a daily specials menu, which makes choosing even easier.
A popular choice is the value multiple-piece sets on the menu.
These sets, such as “Yamato 5-piece,” “Special Selection 5-piece,” and “Blue Fish 3-piece,” include recommended items of the day.
They are affordable and offer a variety of flavors.
After ordering these sets, we added individual pieces that were not included in the sets or ones we wanted to try again.
Even though I find cheaper conveyor belt sushi places like Sushiro and Hamazushi delicious, the quality here at Yamato is noticeably different! Every visit, my husband and I end up looking at each other and exclaiming how delicious it is. Every item is tasty.
There’s no disappointment.
Check Your Order Status if the Restaurant is Busy
Perhaps due to the number of customers, there were some items that took a while to arrive after ordering.
During busy times, it seems more efficient to place bulk orders rather than ordering items individually.
There were instances where ordered items were forgotten. I heard customers asking, “I ordered XX, but it hasn’t arrived yet?” or saying, “I ordered XX, but we’re leaving now, so please cancel it.”
We also had to cancel our crab soup order because it never arrived.
If you’re sitting at the counter, directly asking the sushi chef, “Is XX ready yet?” might be the best approach.
This might sound like the customers are angry, but there was no such hostile atmosphere. The sushi chefs also asked questions like, “Have you received XX?” to check on orders.
They seem to be trying their best to avoid order mistakes.
The busyness appeared to be beyond the staff’s capacity, so while waiting and observing the situation inside the restaurant, I didn’t feel any anger.
It’s also possible that the day I visited was particularly busy.
This might give the impression that the customers were frustrated, but there was no such tense atmosphere.
The sushi chefs themselves often ask, “Has your order of XX arrived?” to check on the orders.
They seem to be making efforts to avoid any mistakes in orders.
The level of busyness probably exceeded the staff’s capacity to keep up, so as I observed the situation in the restaurant while waiting, I didn’t feel any anger.
It’s also possible that the day I visited was exceptionally busy.
Impressions
Every item was fresh and delicious, and most importantly, affordable!
The prices were so reasonable that it made me consider skipping chain conveyor belt sushi places like Sushiro twice to go to Kaiten Sushi Yamato instead.
If you’re visiting Tokyo, why not take a drive to Chiba to try it out?
Delicious and affordable sushi is the best.
